Treatment for the Entire Family
Though we offer a range of cosmetic and restorative dentistry treatments at Dental Design Solutions of New Mexico, the foundation of our practice is general dentistry. The team at our Albuquerque practice, led by Dr. Ron Ziemann, is committed to helping our patients maintain sound oral health and beautiful smiles, and this is best accomplished through preventive action.
By taking a proactive approach to our patients’ oral health, we can help greatly reduce the risk of gum disease, tooth decay, infection, gingivitis, and other common dental complications. If you are seeking a family dentist or would like to schedule an appointment for general dentistry treatment, please contact our Albuquerque dental office today. We treat patients like family at our practice, and would be honored to help you.
We treat patients of all ages at Dental Design Solutions, from toddlers to seniors. To meet our younger patients’ needs, we work with pediatric specialists throughout the area. If you are looking for a family dentist, you can trust our team to provide you with compassionate care. We take every measure to provide our patients with a comfortable, pain-free experience and utilize state-of-the-art techniques and dental technology to ensure the best results possible. We can help your family maintain its oral health through prevention and education. Good oral hygiene habits start at home, at a young age; through education, we can not only help your children understand the importance of their dental health, but can help you guide their habits.
Dental Cleanings and Exams
The cornerstone of general dentistry treatment is cleanings and exams. At the Albuquerque office of Dental Design Solutions, we perform thorough examinations of our patients’ teeth and gum tissue, paying special attention to any signs of gum disease or oral cancer. If these signs are seen, we will take action to help prevent these conditions from worsening. Early diagnosis is the single best way to prevent decay and disease, and this is only possible through routine examinations. During dental cleanings, we can remove plaque buildup, clean in-between the teeth, and check below the gum line for bacteria buildup or infection. Even individuals who maintain an at-home oral hygiene regimen should see the dentist every six months for cleanings, as at-home care is simply no substitute for professional treatment.
Fluoride is a mineral element that helps prevent tooth decay. Children and teens, in particular, are ideal candidates for fluoride treatment as their teeth are in a state of development, making them susceptible to decay through demineralization. A fluoride treatment is simple: the fluoride is applied to the teeth, typically in gel, foam, or varnish form, and left to sit for several minutes. This easy measure can help prevent premature wear and strengthen the teeth. Though ideal for children and teens, adults can benefit from fluoride treatment as well.
If a tooth is impacted, severely decayed, or been damaged as a result of trauma, extraction may be necessary. Though a relatively simple and straight-forward procedure, we realize that such treatment can cause hesitation for some patients; we offersedation dentistry to help calm their nerves, and utilize local anesthetic during all surgical procedures for pain-free treatment. Rest assured, you can expect dental care of the highest quality and superb results. When performing an extraction, Dr. Ziemann will often perform bone grafting in the treatment area for purposes of ridge preservation; this helps prevent the treatment area from shrinking and makes it a suitable site for the placement of an implant at a later time.
The joint that provides your jaw freedom of movement is the temporomandibular joint, or TMJ. If the muscles surrounding the TMJ become inflamed, grinding of the teeth places undue strain on the joint, or other external factors expose the joint to aggressive and repetitive motion, it can result in TMJ disorder, or TMD. This condition is categorized as acute or chronic pain of the jaw, neck, shoulders, and head. Common symptoms include headaches, earaches, jaw pain, neck and shoulder pain, and a clicking or popping of the jaw when in use. To treat TMD, a number of different remedies may be utilized, including the use of guards and simple mouth exercises. Because TMD is unique to each individual, the treatment that is right for you will differ from that of someone else who experiences TMD. If you believe that you suffer from TMJ disorder, Dr. Ron Ziemann can evaluate your condition and devise a course of action to alleviate or eliminate your symptoms.
Our commitment to providing our patients with quality dental care extends to every aspect of our practice, including the technology that we employ in our office. The intraoral camera is a tool that we use in nearly every dental procedure; a small wand with a miniscule camera lens on the end, it can be inserted into the patient’s mouth with zero difficulty. It then transmits a picture to a viewing monitor, which provides Dr. Ziemann with an unparalleled image of the teeth and gums. The patient can also see this image, allowing him or her to stay abreast of the treatment in real time. We like to educate our patients at Dental Design Solutions, so that they can form realistic expectations and make informed decisions, and the intraoral camera, while serving as a remarkably effective tool for Dr. Ziemann, serves as an educational tool.
