Dental Implants

A dental implant is a titanium post that serves as an artificial tooth root. Atop this post, a dental restoration such as a crown or bridge can be placed to serve as an artificial tooth. In conjunction, these two systems form a fully realized tooth substitute. For patients with damaged or decayed teeth, or those who are missing one or more teeth, a dental implant provides a long-lasting, durable, and effective solution that can restore the appearance and functionality of their smile. Dr. Ziemann places and restores implants at Dental Design Solutions, providing him with complete control over your treatment. If you suffer from severe dental problems, you may be a candidate. During your initial consultation, Dr. Ziemann can determine if implants are right for you.

Dental Crowns and Bridges

A dental crown is sometimes referred to as a “cap” because it fully encapsulates a damaged tooth. Manufactured from porcelain, as all restorations placed at the Dental Design Solutions are, a crown is a tooth-shaped dental prosthetic. If an existing tooth is malformed, severely decayed, damaged, or may require extraction if left untreated, a dental crown can be used to restore the tooth. To place the crown, the affected tooth will first be modified; decayed tooth material will be removed and the tooth will be reshaped to provide space for the crown. The dental crown will then be placed over the tooth and secured in place with dental cement. It will then serve as a fully functioning, natural-looking artificial tooth. Dental crowns can also serve as anchors for artificial teeth designed to fill in gaps – these prosthetics are known as dental bridges.

Dentures

For individuals who are missing most or all of their teeth, dentures provide an effective solution. There are many different types of dentures, including implant-supported dentures, which removes the risk of slippage. The type of denture that is right for you will depend on a variety of factors. Do you have sufficient bone to support dental implants? Are you looking for a long-term and durable solution? Are you looking for the most budget-friendly option? Do you want dentures that perfectly mimic the function, durability, and appearance of natural teeth? Your answers to these questions will help Dr. Ziemann determine which of these restorative dentistry options is best for you. At our Albuquerque dental office, we strive to provide compassionate care and will recommend the best solution to meet your needs and goals.

Bone Grafting and Ridge Preservation

If you lack sufficient bone mass in your jaw to support a dental implant, or an extraction is being performed, Dr. Ziemann can complete bone grafting for ridge preservation or as a means of anchoring an implant. By migrating bone material from a donor site in the jaw to the treatment area, the structure and durability of that area can be greatly improved. In the case of extractions, a bone grafting procedure can help prevent shrinkage in the absence of a tooth. This also allows for an implant to be placed should you not opt for a dental bridge to fill the resulting gap from the extraction. With more than 30 years of experience in the field of dentistry, Dr. Ron Ziemann can perform this procedure in our office for best results.

Frenectomy

If the small fold of tissue beneath your tongue (called the frenulum) is too tight, it can limit tongue movement, which in turn can impair speech, feeding, and oral hygiene. A frenectomy is a simple procedure by which this fold of tissue is altered or removed, providing greater freedom of movement and, in turn, eliminating symptoms associated with ankyloglossia, the congenital oral anomaly. In some cases, the frenulum beneath the upper lip may need to be modified as well to treat abnormal gum recession or to provide sufficient space for dentures. In either case, the procedure can be performed quickly and pain-free, thanks to local anesthetic.

Full-mouth Rehabilitation

Dr. Ziemann can help anyone improve their oral health and the aesthetics of their smile, regardless of how poor their oral health is. If you suffer from severe dental problems or have teeth that have been deformed through dental trauma, Dr. Ziemann can perform full-mouth rehabilitation. A full-mouth reconstruction is not a single treatment; rather, it consists of multiple treatments, often performed over the course of several months, during which the condition of the mouth is slowly improved. Though every full-mouth reconstruction is different, as each is designed around the unique needs of the patient, many make use of common restorative dentistry treatments. At our Albuquerque dental practice, we employ the use of dental implants, dental crowns and bridges, dental bonding, porcelain veneers, and even teeth whitening to restore our patients’ dental health and youthful luster. If you believe that a full-mouth reconstruction is for you, we encourage you to speak with Dr. Ziemann about it at your earliest convenience.
